CHANDIGARH: Police seized a consignment of narcotics (poppy husk) from the possession of two passengers of a Punjab Roadways bus plying between Jaipur and Delhi on Thursday. Devinder Kumar and Vijay Kumar, residents of Hoshiarpur district, have been arrested and about 19-kg poppy husk kept in two bags recovered.
Sources said Devinder and Vijay were apprehended by the bus driver, Parlahad Ram, near Sector 29 and Hallomajra roundabout.
SHO of Industrial Area police station Malkit Singh said Ram and conductor Sarabjeet Singh became suspicious about the two and took the bus to Punjab Roadways depot in Industrial Area. "After the recent arrest of driver Satpal Singh and conductor Jagdish Kumar, Punjab Roadways had issued instructions to their staff to keep an eye on peddlers,he added.
A case under NDPS Act, 1983, has been registered. The accused will be produced in district courts-17 on Friday. Operation cell had arrested the driver and the conductor of another Punjab Roadways bus plying on the same route and recovered 60-kg poppy husk on December 13.
