CHANDIGARH :Hon’ble Minister of Tourism and Minister for Housing & Urban Poverty Alleviation, Government of India, Kumari Selja inaugurated the three day 6th NRI Chandigarh Golfing Tour today. The honorable minister was accompanied by Sanjay Kothari, Additional Secretary, Ministry of Tourism, Govt. of India, Ram Niwas, Home Secretary UT Chandigarh, D.K. Tiwari, MD, CITCO, Chandigarh and Amandeep Kaur, Director, Tourism, UT Chandigarh. J.S.Cheema, President CGA welcomed the chief guest and the officers of the Administration. After the ribbon cutting ceremony and the ceremonial release of the score card, play commenced. Kumari Selja was introduced to Francisco Amros, Director Golf COSTA Del Sol, Spain and Karen Hovhannisyan of Golf Federation of Armenia.
Hon’ble Minister also interacted with a group of upcoming amateur caddy players of this region. Renowned golfer Jeev Milkha Singh also graced the occasion. Kumari Selja was taken around the golf course by J.S.Cheema, President CGA.
Kumari Selja then proceeded to the Chandigarh Golf Range and was quite appreciative of the golfing facility. She made a particular mention of how golf was becoming popular among girls and how the Chandigarh Golf Range was playing a pivotal role in popularising golf and golf tourism in this region. Ashwani Sharma, Secretary, CGA, thanked the minister for her time and the assistance provided by the Ministry of Tourism Govt.of India and the Chandigarh Administration to conduct the 6th NRI Chandigarh Golfing Tour 2010.
